Ugandan Woman Flees Mbarara Clinic After DNA Test Excludes Husband

3 min read

A routine paternity test intended to settle years of marital friction ended in a dramatic street chase in Mbarara, Uganda, after a mother of four fled a medical facility upon receiving highly contested DNA results.

The incident occurred after Edwinlive Nuwasiima and her husband, Bylton Mugizi, sought the services of MBN Clinical Laboratories to verify the biological paternity of their children. The couple, who have been together for six years, resorted to the scientific intervention following persistent domestic disputes. According to Mugizi’s family, both sets of parents had previously intervened on at least four separate occasions in an attempt to mediate the couple’s underlying issues, to no avail.

The DNA Revelation and Street Chase

Medical results presented by the clinic confirmed that Mugizi is the biological father of their three older children. However, the conclusive tests excluded him as the father of their youngest daughter, who is currently two and a half years old.

The medical disclosure triggered an immediate crisis. Witnesses reported that Nuwasiima bolted from the clinic and sprinted down the street, actively fleeing from her husband. Mugizi pursued her in an attempt to force her into their vehicle, stating his intention to drive her directly back to her parents’ home. She vehemently refused to enter the car, resulting in a tense public standoff.

Claims of Witchcraft and Sabotage

Speaking to a TV West reporter in the aftermath of the street confrontation, Nuwasiima flatly rejected the laboratory’s findings. She maintained that Mugizi is the biological father of the toddler and accused the clinical results of being entirely fabricated.

Deflecting the paternity crisis, she launched counter-accusations regarding her husband’s fidelity. Nuwasiima alleged that Mugizi is actively engaged in extra-marital affairs and has been “bewitched” by other women who are intentionally orchestrating the destruction of their marriage.

Underlying Financial Disputes

The paternity dispute appears to be the breaking point of a deeply fractured union that involves significant financial grievances. Beyond the DNA controversy, Mugizi has openly accused his wife of severe financial mismanagement and deceit. He alleged that Nuwasiima secretly sold off a newly established salon in Itendero town—one of two businesses he had personally financed for her—without his knowledge or consent. These financial allegations remain independently unverified by local authorities.

The Mbarara incident highlights a growing regional reliance across East Africa on clinical DNA testing to resolve domestic disputes, frequently resulting in severe public and psychological fallout when the scientific conclusions shatter established family structures.

Should clinical laboratories be required to provide mandatory on-site psychological counseling for couples receiving highly sensitive DNA paternity results?
